Team Cameron,
It's been a busy summer. I definitely cannot complain about the weather. It's been extremely mild here in Kansas in fact I don't think we've had more than a handful of days over 100° in the last three months. I guess that global warming thing that everyone is complaining about is just a myth. Besides the Internet what has Al Gore really done?
I told you in my last post that I was working on two reunions this year. One for the family and one for my 25th high school reunion. The family reunion went off without a hitch. There were about 95 from my mother's side that took over Durango Colorado for a few days at the end of June. We had a great time catching up & relating the old stories over cold beverages. I look forward to seeing everyone again in a couple of years.
For me, vacationing in Durango is an ideal spot. After arriving we used my vehicle one time in five days. Everything I needed or anywhere I needed to be I could get to from my wheelchair. Of course I did find the limit to my batteries. I don't think the chair handles the altitude very well. It seemed to really draw on my battery life. It was worth it, the weather was perfect and everyone had a great time.
The Class of 88 from Olathe North is planning a reunion weekend to coincide with Old Settlers Days the first weekend of September. We are trying something different this time. Instead of meeting on Friday night at a local watering hole and renting a facility for Saturday night that we will just head to another bar on Saturday and people can spend their money the way they want. It seems over the years to many people show up only on the pre-party. It will be good to see everyone I haven't seen since our 20.
The gentleman from Push America came through town in mid July. They were just over half way through their 4000 plus miles on their Journey of Hope. For those of you that don't know, Push America is a national fraternity that raises money and awareness for the needs of the disabled. Each summer nearly 100 members of the fraternity start on one of three trails from the West Coast to ride their bikes to Washington, DC. Each year one of the routes stops in Olathe for a couple of days and I am responsible to plan their stay.
It seems to get easier each year because the sponsors enjoy meeting these young men on their journey. Olathe did their best to show them the Midwest hospitality. All the guys that I talked to said that this is one of their favorite stops. Thanks to everyone for their help.
I made it again to this year's Bacon Fest Hosted by the Rehab Institute of Kansas City. I spent a hot afternoon sampling tasting bites from local restaurants cooked with bacon in the recipe. It's amazing how quickly you can fill up on 10-12 bite-sized pieces of Heaven. Other than the 95° weather it was a great fundraiser for the Rehab Institute.
The Golf Committee has been working on the 2013 Golf Classic. It will be held on September 27 at the Deer Creek Golf Course located on 133rd and Old Metcalf Road. The shotgun start is planned for 1:30 PM. We will have a burrito lunch provided by Chipotle at 12:30 just-in-time to fill you up before a beautiful day on the links. Texas Roadhouse is again our dinner sponsor, so expect to eat well after your game while checking out the auction items. If you don't have time to play golf feel free to join us for dinner or drinks and participate in the auction. Year after year the Committee puts on a great event. www.teamcameron.org/annualgolfclassic
Brown Bag Liquor will be hosting another Wine Tasting in October. I don't have a confirmed date but I believe it will be the second weekend in October. Go ahead and pencil in the 11th. They will of course be serving around 100 types of wine. In addition, they will have local restaurants with their signature dishes available for your samplings. Now if that's not enough to grab your attention, there will be another opportunity to make your way through dozens of items on the silent auction table. The Brown Bag Liquor guys and gals are known in some circles for throwing "the best parties in Kansas City." You won't want to miss this, I will give you a link to their web site and additional information when it becomes available.
It's amazing how often during your day-to-day activities that you can find yourself in a conversation with someone complaining about their lives. A couple of posts ago I gave you my life advice, "If you can't laugh at the cards in your hand, you have already lost the game." I try to find something humorous in what some would say too many situations, but I have found it helps when dealing with those difficult times. Take a look at the following quote. It reminded me of a recent conversation with a friend of mine. I wish I could have conveyed this idea when talking to them.

Have a great day and a smile.

ps- I had completed my post and realized that I had forgot to mention my upcoming Anniversary Celebration. Wednesday, September 11 will be the 9th year anniversary of my accident so for those of you racking your brain for a gift, according to Hallmark it should have a pottery or leather theme. I'm planning to be home that day if anyone wants to stop by for a game of lawn darts and a cold beer.
