Team Cameron,
It's been two months since my last post. I don't know why it's taken so long for me to update, I had started this post almost a month ago. The problem I've had is a writer's block.
In my last post I had mentioned that my new organization, Make a Splash Inc. has been recognized by the IRS and given tax-deductible status. I am hopeful that I will continue to work as a Patient Advocate to the disabled and grow my Motivational Speaking to additional area middle schools and possibly professional level organizations. Please contact me if you are interested in me speaking to your business or organization. In addition, if you have contacts with anyone at the local middle school level I would love to be put in contact with them. Feel free to get them my address at cameron-mark@sbcglobal.net.
I am hosting my first event on the second Saturday in February. The annual Bowling Classic will offer a discounted rate for children under the age of 16. The adult bowl is $25 and partially tax deductible.
You can find additional information at us2.campaign-archive1.com/?u=1afed9281e5b8ffe97b987d86&id=4d3f18e82b.
The Bowling Classic is Saturday February ninth at Mission Bowl in Olathe. The location, the same as last year, is offering any children from Team Cameron a discounted rate on bowling and shoes from 330 until 6 p.m.. There will be drawings and every child is guaranteed a prize. I started this 6 or7 years ago to give the kids something to look forward to each year. The adult tournament will take place between 630 and nine that evening with additional prizes, surprises and trophies. It's not mandatory but please e-mail Maureen mlcameron7@gmail.com your team name and members beforehand to give us an idea of how many people will be attending. It's always a hit for the young and old.
The entire family made it to Kansas City for Thanksgiving. As the nephews and nieces get older it gets more difficult organizing everyone schedule for a family dinner but we did our best. If you will recall last year I gave everyone ugly Christmas attire for a family picture. This year I started shopping for unusual hat's and I will attempt to drop a picture at the bottom of the post. I gave everyone their hats over the Thanksgiving weekend in order to get an updated family picture.
A number of us were able to get together over Christmas as well and celebrated Christmas Eve at my cousins as we have for a number of years. Santa Claus stopped by to drop off a couple of presents for the good boys and girls. No, I didn't make that list. I'm not sure what the bearded man knows about me, I tried to operate under the radar all year.
I've been working with a group of eight or 10 fellow Olathe North High School alumni on our 25 year class reunion. Using Facebook we put together a Pre-Reunion party over Christmas break for any and all to attend. I'm guessing there were between 35 and 40 in attendance and I'm sure we will have another one before our Class Reunion Party in September.
I also attended my first meeting with the Olathe High School Alumni Association. They work to maintain alumni lists from each of the five Olathe High Schools. They also get together once a year to recognize outstanding teachers and students at a celebration dinner. I imagine I will be posting additional information as it comes available.
I found an interesting story that teaches a very valuable lesson. I would like to invite you to keep this in mind during both your personal and business lives.
The Fence
There once was a little boy who had a bad temper. His father gave him a bag of nails and told him that every time he lost his temper, he must hammer a nail into the fence. The first day the boy had driven 37 nails into the fence. Over the next few weeks as he learned to control his anger, the number of nails hammered daily, gradually dwindled down. He discovered it was easier to hold his temper than to drive those nails into the fence.
Finally the day came when the boy didn’t lose his temper at all. He told his father about it and the father suggested that the boy now pull out one nail for each day that he was able to hold his temper. The days passed and the young boy was finally able to tell his father that all the nails were gone.
The father took his son by the hand and led him to the fence. He said “you have done well, my son, but look at the holes in the fence. The fence will never be the same. When you say things in anger, they leave a scar just like this one.” You can put a knife in a man and draw it out. It won’t matter how many times you say I’m sorry, the wound is still there. Make sure you control your temper the next time you are tempted to say something you will regret later.

I hope you all had a great new year and are holding steadfast to your resolutions.
See you all at the bowling alley.
