Team Cameron,
The month of May has come and gone and typical for the Kansas weather we had some huge extremes. Olathe has enjoyed tornadoes, hail storms, heavy rains and flooding during the early month and mid-90s Memorial Day weekend and we finished off the month in the high 40s. Other than the extremes temperatures it's been a quiet month around here. Between the crazy weather issues I have been able to get outside and enjoy a number of days filled with sunshine. The yard and the landscaping are looking good I of course have nothing to do with the work other than recruiting the best people. Thank you to everyone that has taken some time helping around my pad.
I have been working on this year's Push America schedule. If you will recall Push America is an organized ride consisting of college age cyclist on their Journey of Hope ride across America. They start on the West Coast stopping from town to town in an effort to raise money and awareness for the needs of the disabled. This will be my seventh year organizing their arrival, lodging, meals and entertainment.
As in years past you are all invited to the events. Their arrival with the Olathe Police escort and Olathe Fire Department welcoming ceremony is scheduled for 12:30 on Tuesday, July 10. The Mayor is also presenting them with a proclamation declaring the day Push America Day in Olathe. I have also scheduled a wheelchair basketball game between the Lawrence, Kansas Wheel Hawks and the Push America cyclist that same evening at 7 p.m. at the Kansas School for the Deaf. I am hoping that should draw a crowd. I'm certain it will be entertaining. I hope you all can make it.
I had a great Memorial Day weekend. Friday night was a full on testosterone fest. My brother-in-law Brian and nephew Preston and I headed to Lawrence to watch the state championship high school baseball tournament. We actually knew two players on two different teams. After both Miles with Olathe South and Ryan on Blue Valley West won their games the three of us headed back to my place for dinner. Brian prepared a recipe I found online and one I would suggest to all of you carnivores.
The ham dog with cheese and bacon. That's right, you start with a hot dog wrapped in cheese and then a layer of hamburger with the whole thing wrapped in three slices of bacon. The three of us men enjoyed our meal in front of the TV while watching the movie "Miracle." For those of you scratching your head trying to remember whether or not you have seen this movie, it was about the 1980 Olympic Hockey Team finally beating the Russians. If you haven't seen the movie I suggest renting it. It is the best. It was definitely a “Man Night” I look forward to the next one with brother-in-law Brian and nephew Preston.
I made it back to Lawrence on Saturday afternoon to watch Miles and Ryan play against each other and then a second game during the finals but the heat chased me into the air conditioning of the KU Basketball Hall Of Fame. Not a bad place to cool off.
I also enjoyed a night of the Royals Stadium with my good buddy Danny and we met up with Donnie and family. We lucked out with the weather. It started out hot but by the end of the game it cooled off. Although only one run scored it was for the boys in blue so we finished the night with a win. If you haven't made it to a game, get out there.
Don’t forget the golf committee has set the date for Friday, September 21 for the 8th Annual Mark Cameron Golf Classic. Deer Creek Golf Course is a tougher course so bring an extra sleeve of golf balls but leave the foot wedge at home. If you don’t like the lie of the ball don’t blame your scramble partner you should have hit a better shot. In addition to a beautiful course one of the main reasons we are moving is that Deer Creek has a banquet room large enough for the post dinner/awards ceremony. Get out your calendar, laptop or smart phone and save September 21st for a day of the links. Here is a link to the registration - www.teamcameron.org/index.php/annualgolfclassic
Have a great day.
Take care, Mark
