Team Cameron,
I've been reading the news and have heard from a couple of people how they are looking forward to a new year. It seems the majority are ready to get 2011 behind them and are hoping for a more successful 2012. I'm sorry for all of you that have had less than a pleasant year but I would like to remind you of a more optimistic view. Instead of reflecting on those unpleasant events of last year try to concentrate on any of the pleasant times no matter how insignificant. Now, like so many of my posts I've going to have to talk about myself.
I just spent a little time rereading my post and I can’t help but smile over the events of the past 12 months. I have had a great 2011 in fact I don’t mind bragging on a few of my achievements. I had set a goal to ride my bike more and was able to ride 40 miles a week in all but a couple of weeks. To save you a little effort in math, that is around 2000 miles. Not bad for a dude in a chair.
If my memory serves me correctly I have also been healthy for all but about 10 to 12 days in November when I was fighting a lung infection. I'm sure my health has to do with my exercise routine and a change in my diet. But, over the years I have talked with a number of doctors that have been impressed with my ability to stay out of the hospital and doctor's offices.
Yet another factoid I would like to brag about. In addition to my health and with respect to the change in my diet and consistent exercise I've been able to peel off a little bit of weight. They told me years ago that weight gain would be something I should expect and be careful that I don't gain enough to cause the secondary issues. It's the secondary issues that will put me back in front of the doctor and my motivator for eliminating most desserts and pushing away a plate before completing some meals.
Currently I am unemployed but I try to stay busy giving house tours to the newly injured, their families, people in the industry and even the occasional groups that would like to see the equipment a quadriplegic uses. In addition, I have completed a couple of items on my to-do list.
A couple of months ago it was suggested during one of my home tours that I make a list of all of the items I have found most helpful since my accident and although it changes occasionally I have completed a pretty extensive list. I have been e-mailing it out to other wheelchair users and people in the industry. With luck I will attach it to this post.
If you know someone that would benefit or could use one of the items on my list feel free to pass it along. Over the years I have made a few regretful purchases but I didn't think I should post them on my list.
With my continued interest in motivational speaking and getting the word out to potential audiences I have completed an introductory flyer that I am able to send to potential middle schools, business professionals or potential sponsors. It took a little time to put it together but I am very pleased with the outcome. Again, with luck, I will attach it to this post.
If you have any connections with a local middle school, business or professional associations and/or know of any groups or organizations and would like me to speak I would love if you pass my information along. You can e-mail them a link to my web site or you should be able to copy and paste the flyer to e-mail my information along.
I do have a couple of goals for 2012. I could definitely stand to lose a couple more pounds. Nothing drastic like Jenny Craig because I don't have the fortitude but I'm hoping if I continue to push away the plate when I am full and cut back on a few more sweets it will get me where I need to be. My other option is a little more drastic, I may shave my chest.
I know this weekend will be celebrated by many, some for the end of the year they would like to put behind and looking forward to getting many things accomplished in the New Year. If you will recall Team Cameron has been continuing the Prayer Power Surge and will be gathered on January 1 to pray for those who need it most.
I think you all recognize the power of prayer and if you will remember that we established the Prayer Power Surge to take place at 6 p.m. CST for 10 minutes. We have been harnessing the collective prayer by many to help those in need. If you would like to participate wherever you are we will be there in prayer at 6 p.m. on Sunday.
I would like to wish you all a Happy New Year and a very prosperous 2012 and the best of luck on your New Year's resolutions.
Thank you all,
Mark Cameron
