Team Cameron,
After getting started with this post I decided that a two-part edition would be best. With my ADHD I mean multitasking skills I couldn't commit to write a six-week summary in such a concise manner as to hold my attention much less the attention of some of my readers.
I enjoyed another America Royal Barbecue contest as a guest of American Barbecue Systems. My lovely chauffeur and friend, Lauri, and I agree that a 10:30 p.m. departure time would be ideal for the amount of sleep each of us needed. She was a trooper at 1:15 a.m. when I was still carousing with 250,000 of my closest friends she had no less than the smile on her face. And I know we both had a great time although the sleep would have been nice I'm glad we didn't leave, I would've missed out on three hours of stimulating conversation.
Have you ever heard the term EMAW? I hadn’t until a couple of weeks ago. A van of us headed west for our first K-State v. Baylor football game. Over my 41 years of life I have never jumped on the K-State, KU or MU band wagons but I'll admit, I had a great time and saw a great game (I have heard that it qualified in the top five by some people). Needless to say, I was on the proverbial edge-of-my-seat. I don't believe I will be painting my van purple but I will admit they were fun to watch and wouldn't hesitate going again. By the way EMAW is short for “Every Man a Wildcat” just an FYI.
I was invited to speak again to one of the local Middle Schools here in Olathe. I started speaking to the seventh-grade classes annually starting with my 2005 return from the hospital. I enjoy speaking with the students and sharing the story of "Team Cameron" and the life lessons that I have come to know.
At the end of my speech I give the audience a chance to ask questions. I try to learn from those questions exactly what the kids, the following year would like to hear in the speech. I modified the speech year after year to include that information they found relevant. I find it interesting that after seven years that I will get one or two new questions. It never fails, I learn something new about myself with each and every speech.
I'm always looking for new opportunities to speak with groups. If any of you have suggestions for me or would like to recommend me to someone else I would appreciate any help you can offer to put me in front of a listening audience. Over the years I have talked with all age levels of students as well as Professional Organization and companies. E-mail me at Cameron-Mark@sbcglobal.net with information and/or requests.
It's Halloween season which means we are less than 60 days to Christmas. With that said, Brown Bag Liquor and Debbie Swinney of State Farm hosted the annual Team Cameron Wine Tasting on the night of October 23. I have heard from a number of people that was the nicest wine tasting they've ever attended.
I would like to thank the hosts, volunteers, vendors, restaurants and of course the attendees for making it such a successful event. Those that participated in the discounted wines and silent auction items should be one step closer to their holiday shopping. I have it on good authority that your order will be ready on Friday October 28th. Be sure to pick them up in a timely manner.
I would also like to thank all of those attendees that dressed for the occasion. Some of those Halloween costumes were classic. I will try to attach a picture of me in costume for your viewing pleasure. We'll see if I know what I'm doing. It seems that any time I set a goal like this my ADHD kicks in.
My best to all of you.
