Team Cameron,
Toni, I'm sorry that I don't quite remember you but I'll always remember the care I got at Craig Hospital. I tell people all the time that you guys are the best. If you trained with Craig and worked with me I think you made a great decision to get into nursing. I still stay in touch with a couple of people from there and hope to make it back to see you guys next year. You nurses don't get enough praise. Thank you for what you do and for letting me know you stopped by the web site.
Last week I celebrated with a 400-500 other people our love of bacon. It was a fundraiser for the Rehabilitation Institute of Kansas City. All of the food vendors served, you guessed it, bacon flavored appetizers, entrées, desserts or drinks. With an exception to the searing heat and lack of shade we had a great time.
After about an hour and a half our bellies were full and we found a shady spot to park to enjoy the music, the beverages and of course the people watching. Everybody loves bacon except those vegetarians but who wants to drink beer with a vegetarian.
I will give you all a couple of months advance notice next July when they set the date for the 2012 Kansas City Bacon Fest.
The Golf Committee has been working hard to get the date out Sept. 23rd) to all of you with a couple of snail mailings and a mass e-mail. I hope each of you has received at least one of the communications. If not, and you think you should have, we need to update your contact information. Can you send a quick e-mail to info@teamcameron.org and we will be certain to get you on the list?

2011 is rolling by. Can you believe it's September already? Looking back through the last eight months we have celebrated all of those typical holidays, birthdays and anniversaries. I have always found it's funny how some people hide from their birthdays or deny their age.
I've given this some thought and each of those holidays and anniversaries should each be celebrated. I don't think they understand how much they should enjoy those days, it beats the alternative.
I have an anniversary to celebrate next weekend. September 11th is a tragic day for most of you but I have a reason to celebrate. For me it's a day I will never forget. I spent the day at the lake with a group of friends and took a dive into the water that changed my life forever. The one dive into the water just like so many before but this one had a much more severe result.
Sure, I'm a quadriplegic and I can't scratch my own nose but I choose to celebrate 9/11 because the outcome could have been so much worse. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think about those involved that day. From the witnesses and emt’s to the medical staff, helicopter pilots and doctors. I understand that the trauma could have been more severe or even fatal.
One of the most important things that September 11 stands for in my eyes is that through that tragedy I came to know so many people through Team Cameron. My support network started that day and is evident all around me and I am thankful that you all are here. I have very few memories from those early days at the hospital but I do remember hearing about this blog and the well wishes from each of you. I was inspired, to say the least.
During my rehabilitation I received flowers, cards, cookies and candy and I also listened as people read to me the well wishes from family and friends and in some cases people I had never met. I remember the first time I admitted to my sister that I could not fail with this many people watching me.
I know that 9/11 also marks the anniversary of the devastation and death of so many but for me it carries a second more celebrated meaning of my new life. If I could set the clock back I know I would have done at least one thing different but because that's not possible I choose to celebrate everything that has happened since because it beats the option.
Each of you have helped me in so many ways and without you this would be an much tougher fight. Thank you for everything.
Mark
