Hello Team Cameron,
I've tried writing my posts once a month but inevitably the proverbial wrench is thrown into the cogs. Over the last two weeks I had been suffering from a computer problem. I would normally turn on my microphone and dictate but I have been unable to and I'm guessing it's was due to a pinched wire or something.
It's October 20 and I'm finally getting around to a post. (I found a temporary microphone) September is here and gone. I always enjoy the month of September but this one was especially pleasant both the weather and the time spent with friends and loved ones.
The weather has been slow to turn cold allowing me to soak up the sunlight on these 70° days. Short-sleeved shirts are still allowed during the 60° evenings through the late summer and early Kansas’ falls. Although it is getting darker much earlier the daylight we do have is enjoyable.
The county fairs, street celebrations and high school football games kept me busy throughout the month of September. Olathe's Old Settlers Days celebration was a little cold but it's always a great place to get a corn dog, funnel cake or street taco.
I hope you all enjoyed the annual Team Cameron Wine Tasting/Golf Classic/Dinner fundraisers and I wanted to be sure to thank everyone that helped out. If you were not able to make this years events, I'm sorry to say, you missed big.
There is a committee who volunteer their time to be sure each of these event goes on without a hitch and this year they set the bar to a new level. The Wine Tasting had over 100 types of wines and a number of restaurants serving their signature dishes. I heard from a number of people that evening, that Brown Bag Liquor definitely hosts the most impressive wine tastings they had ever attended. Thanks again to BBL.
I don't know how the Golf Committee pulled it off but the day was sunny and 75°. Had it not been against the rules and less than cooth, I could have spent the day without my shirt working on my Coppertone tan. I enjoyed spending time at the golf course clubhouse while each of the team's made their way through the turn and took a few moments to take their team picture with me.
It seems each year that I am never able to spend enough time with the golfers but I always look forward to those guys returning year after year. I also enjoy meeting those new golfers and their stories on how they came to know about the tournament. After a beautiful day golfing we moved the party to Prince of Peace Church in Olathe.
Here is where the Dinner Committee took over. We had another great dinner from Texas Roadhouse while we welcomed the golfers and their wives along with other friends and family to an evening of fun. Brown Bag Liquor worked to keep everyone's thirst in check while stories were shared with old friends and new.
The Auction Committee put together a huge selection of donated items for the guests to bid on while watching the auctioneer work the crowd with Collectors Edition bicycle, sports memorabilia and travel packages.
Be sure to check out my web site for the list of sponsors that helped with both product and financial contributions. If you are needing anything shop them first. teamcameron.org/
I was able to take a few minutes to talk with the group about my latest report from Kennedy Krieger Institute in Baltimore. I also wanted to recognize those volunteers for their efforts in hosting a successful event and the rest of my friends for all they do for me throughout the year.
Again, I would like to thank the Committees, their volunteers, the sponsors, the donors, the golfers, the additional attendees and everyone else that could take the time to make the events so successful. If you were unable to attend this year be sure to watch for next year's event's.
Love, Mark
