Hello Team Cameron,
I can't believe it's been so long since my last post. I don't know where the time has gone. I've tried writing this post a couple of times but have found one reason or another not to finish. I hope you all are enjoying my new web site. Keep checking back, I'm hoping to make additions soon.
The end of an era. The Cannonballers have hung up their cleats. After five years and more than 100 games and a win ratio of about 40% the team decided to take the summer off. We have yet to decide when we may regroup but I think new recruits will be needed in order to field the next team.
There were a few career-ending injuries and some chronic injuries that had been plaguing our lineup over the last few seasons. I think we may look to renaming the team and collecting sponsorship money from an Ace bandage company and the manufacturers of Bengay and the ibuprofen pharmaceutical company.
I would like to thank everyone from the team and of course our number one fans Ken and Enda. It's been a great laugh watching you all relearn the game and honing your skill. Remember it doesn't matter the score at the end of the game as long as you get some laughs. Which is a good thing considering our record. On Sunday.
I will be sure to let you all know if we are holding tryouts for the next team. Until then I have my Sunday nights open and looking for something to get me out of the house.
As at the school year came to a close I had another invitation from a nephew Parker, to participate in a class speech. He was giving an informative speech on spinal cord injuries to his fifth-grade class and asked if I would join him as the expert. I think we did great but I have yet to hear about the grade we received. I'm sure my part was given an A. He also did a great job, I was very proud.
With the summer upon us I am getting out to a few more Little League baseball games but have yet to make a trip to the Royals. I've talked with a couple of friends and I foresee a trip to the Kaufman Stadium in the very near future. Until then I'm definitely enjoying any baseball or soccer game I can attend.
If your son or daughter is playing feel free to call me or send me an e-mail. I would try to make it but if I'm in need of a ride expect a call from me.
The Team Cameron Golf Committee met again last week and things are going great. Has everyone blocked off September 23 and 24th? The annual Wine Tasting will be held at the Ball conference center on the evening of September 23 followed by The Golf Tournament on September 24 at Sycamore Ridge Golf Course in Springhill, Kansas. It's about 6-7 miles south of Olathe.
We are all excited about the new location. I've heard it's a great course. They have asked me to invite everyone to join their facebook page. They will be able communicate more quickly using that technology. If you're not on facebook then watch for the updates by mail or on this page or the web site.
Memorial weekend I hit the road in the van with Susan to spend a Saturday at a friends like house about an hour and a half away. With only a half mile to go we were delayed by my first flat tire in over five years of owning the van. It could've been worse, we could have been stuck in the snow, mud, side of a busy highway or in the middle of nowhere.
Instead, with only a half mile to go Donnie didn't have a problem finding us. We were parked on a quiet, paved lake road one of the first passersby helped with the repair and the tire was fixed in short order. In fact, it took longer to get the tire out from under the van that it did to change a tire.
The only complaint we could have made about the rest of the day would have had to do with the abundance of sunshine and blue skies. We moved from shade tree to shade tree enjoying the light breeze and beverages the lake had to offer. The afternoon was topped off with a neighborhood potluck and fish fry. What a beautiful day.
Since Memorial Day we've had crazy weather here in Olathe. We have had copious amounts of rain followed up with days of sunshine and hot weather. The hot weather is nothing new for Kansas but the rain is something we're not accustomed to in June. I definitely enjoy it more than the cold but it does keep me closer to home. I really like the sunshine and enjoy my vitamin D.
I found this quote and thought I would pass along, "Many might have failed beneath the bitterness of their trial had they not found a friend." I'm reminded of the difficulties I've experienced over the last 5 1/2 years and how I've been able to reach out and depend on those friendship's I've made both before and after my accident.
Enjoy the summer weather. I promise I will try to do better on keeping you up to date with my posts. Have a great week.
Thanks again to all my friends.
Mark
