Hello Team Cameron,
It's been a busy couple of weeks since my last post. I don't know where to start. So I guess I will write this post as the items come to me.
The 2010 Golf Tournament Committee got together for their first meeting and determined, with the intent of finding better weather, scheduled the 2010 Golf Tournament for September the 24th. Over the last three years the tournament has fallen on days in late April and early May plagued with tornadoes, rainstorms and cold temperatures and drizzling sleet.
They are working with a new golf course, Sycamore Ridge in Springhill Kansas about 12 miles south of Olathe. I've talked with a number of golfers that have convinced me that Sycamore Ridge is one of the nicest courses and they have played. I also know that September weather is usually nicer than April weather here in Kansas. We will know for sure in about 5 1/2 months.
You may have already received a save the date card in the mail. The cards were stuffed and stamped late last week and if they're not already in your mailbox they should be arriving in the next couple of days. Be sure to take a moment with you day planner and calendars to block out the evening of the 23rd for the Annual Brown Bag Liquor Wine Tasting and Friday the 24th for the Golf Tournament and Post Party/Dinner/Auction.
FYI-if you didn't get a save the date card it's because we don't have a correct address for you. E-mail me your address and I will be sure to pass along to the planning committee. In this digital age you will see that the best place to find us with the most up-to-date information will be online at teamcameron.org or register with us on Facebook under Team Cameron.
Last Friday, April 2 was my 40th birthday. The week before that a group of buddies threw a surprise party for me with burgers and beer and a trip to the bar. I had no idea and was caught completely off guard when I rolled into the room to shouts and song.
That evening while in route to the bar we needed to take the elevator to the second-floor and as luck would have it we had overloaded the elevator. After the door close the group of us were surprised when the lights went out as the elevator dropped us a couple of floors. We were stuck for the next 45 minutes while the fire department and building maintenance determine how best to get us out.
It still causes me to laugh when I think about all of us hanging around waiting for rescue.
It was definitely a birthday party I won't soon forget. I would like to thank everyone involved especially the Kansas City Missouri Fire Department and the Power and Light District Maintenance Department.
The Cannonballers are back. This early spring season has had its ups and downs. The downs would obviously be the two losses we suffered already. I would guess that makes the up's would be the two games that were rained out because, at least we didn't lose. We're breaking and a couple of new players and I'm betting that by the time our season is ending we should get them playing like the rest of the season veterans.
As I listened to the sermon during Easter Mass he talked about an Easter egg hunt and how it time the results of an Easter egg hunt are not always fair. It reminded me of a post I made a couple of years ago.
After a few months of rehab therapy in Colorado I found myself feeling sorry for myself and my current situation. I will never forget rolling down the hall and seeing a fellow patient in much worse condition. It was definitely a life-changing moment for me when I realized how fortunate I was compared to the less fortunate residents in the hospital.
In egg hunts as in life I'm sure you have all heard before that "life isn't fair." Don't ever waste time feeling sorry for your situation because there will always be someone less fortunate than you. Instead your time would be better spent setting new life goals and working to improve your current lot in life.
Keep in mind the Sun will come out and life will go on. Enjoy the eggs in the basket.
Take care, Mark
