Hello Team Cameron,
Another quiet week here at 816. It's amazing with this turn into worse for the weather how comfortable I have become in my house. I'm still shocked at how things have changed over the last five years.
Before my accident I would not have spent more than 18 hours inside one building with out physical restraints of some type. Last week I don't know if I got in my van more than two times. I'm not mailing packages to Heads of State or working on a manifesto yet but I have already started planning warm weather excursions for next summer.
I've got a web site for you to check out: bellsouthpwp.net/h/o/holm5215/Untilxmas/Index.html I don't need to estimate how many days we have until Christmas anymore. Just click on the aforementioned link and someone else will let you know. Get out and get your shopping done.
I have just started putting together another care package for friend currently deployed in Afghanistan. I heard the news yesterday report that the packages have to be mailed by December 11 in order to arrive by Christmas. With that mentioned I should have the candy, Pringles, beef jerky, miniature Christmas tree and cookies.
Immediately following my accident they installed a tube in my neck that helped to inflate my lungs allowing me to breathe. This eliminated my ability to eat with the swelling in my neck I also wasn't able to smell. I remember slowly getting back my sense of smell but what took even longer was my sense of taste.
I'm not sure how to medically explain that without a sense of taste I didn't have any cravings. Food didn't appeal to me and neither did candy which in some ways was a good thing because any time you're sick people feel the urge to send you candy to make you feel better. I was fortunate that I didn't have my sweet tooth still in tact because I would have been able to snack uncontrollably with some obvious assistance.
I mentioned this because as I look forward to this continued Christmas season I'm nervous that if it's anything like last year people will be dropping off holiday candies, cakes and cookies for me to enjoy. I'm sure you can imagine that although I cannot snack between meals very easily I can definitely eat more candy in an evening that I can burn in calories.
Nobody likes to hear that they need to watch their waste this time of year but December is always a good time to start looking forward to your New Year's resolutions. You can start shopping now for your new gym or exercise video.
Another good exercise would be to volunteer. See if you can find somebody to help during the holidays. Check with your Church to see if there is a family you can adopt. You'll feel better at the end of the season.
Love, Mark
This last Monday marked the 60th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. It's a great reminder of those sacrifices our soldiers and their families are making this time of year. Hug a vet or soldier and be sure they know how much they're appreciated.
