Hello Team Cameron,
I'm sad to say it looks like it's going to be a long cold winter. It's weeks like this last one that make me regret not spending more time outside during the summer. I'm sure you all know by now that I am not a big fan of the cold and this last summer we were hard-pressed to find very many days in the 90s.
This fall the temperatures dropped from a usual 70s- 80s to 40s- 50s and in some cases the 30s. Our weather has completely skipped a fall like temperature setting. I've talked to a number of people that have turned on their heat including myself.
Another quiet week here as the weather gets colder I stay indoors, I skipped both Friday Night Football and the Sunday nights kickball game. I did however want to report that Coach Flood and the Eagles won their game and are still undefeated and looking strong.
The Cannonballer's on the other hand played a mean game of heads up kickball and had to stop the game in the 10th inning with a 2-2 final score. Their opponent was one that beat us at the beginning of last summer. They admitted to having a median age of around 22 and our median age is closer to 37.
From the postgame reports it looks like we really could not have played a better game. We had minimum errors on defense and from the offensive side of the plate the opponent had a couple of strong arms playing in the outfield that gave them a serious advantage. If I were to guess in my memory serves me they may have had a couple of ringers. In fact I'm sure they played on an Olympic team somewhere.
There are two upcoming events that I wanted to bring to your attention. Next week, October 19, 21 and 23 the Persons with Disabilities Advisory Board is helping to plan a few events to celebrate Disability Awareness Week. Monday the 19th of October is the local job fair held at Johnson County Community College. Wednesday afternoon and evening is an estate planning seminar and Friday afternoon is the legislative forum to be held at City Hall. Check out the following link www.olatheks.org/node/329/Legal. All three events offer great advantages and education for the disabled and their families.
Team Cameron has also begun planning the 2009 Family Bowling Tournament. This is always been a great time for the kids and is an inexpensive afternoon the family. It's scheduled for Saturday the 14th of November from 330 until 10 p.m.. Please pre-registration at www.teamcameron.org/2009bowling.pdf, it helps when the committee is planning to know how many children are going to be bowling.
Have a great week and if the sun comes out on Sunday you will find me on the back porch trying to take in whatever vitamin D is available.
Take care, Mark
