Hello Team Cameron,
With my travels, it's been a couple of weeks since I've been able to post. My sister Kelly graciously offered to write a couple of posts for me. Thanks for the help, Kelly.
I spent a majority of the last two weeks on doctor's appointments/vacation/seminar and I wanted to thank a number of people that made this trip possible. Scott for the ride out, John and Josh for hosting our stay, Paul and Kingsley for my excellent care, Mike and Ben for entertainment, Rachelle at the Hilton, Baltimore for all your help, Breck and Donnie for getting me home, and of course Kelly from start to finish. I had a great time with all of you. Thanks again.
The Stem Cell Summit on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday discussed where technology has brought us. I attended a number of seminars and met some of the top scientist from around the world. From what I collected, they may still be a few years away from utilizing the technology on humans but they have had success in a number of their applications.
The food overall was amazing. I love FRESH seafood but buying hand sized oysters and hotdog sized shrimp will spoil any seafood that will be found in land locked Kansas. There were three nights I particularly enjoyed; on the bank of the Potomac at Ft. McNair Army Base, at the base of the Washington Monument and in the Baltimore Harbor at McCormick and Schmick’s.
I returned home on Thursday morning for a little R&R because I knew the weekend was full of plans. Friday night, Anna and I watched as Coach Pete and the Olathe North Eagles dominated the Olathe East Hawks. Our special sideline view was a new experience in intensity and I hope to watch more from that vantage point soon. Congratulations Coach Pete on your 4-0 record. I look forward to following your progress for the rest of the season.
Saturday afternoon, the KC Wizards hosted Team Cameron and I at the Community America Ballpark. A number of us met in the parking lot for a little pre-game tailgating with grilled hotdogs, fried chicken and cold beverages. The kids were then escorted off to be in the human tunnel to greet the players as they took the field. Although the KC Wizards and Colorado Rapids tied, it was a great game. I do have to say Professional soccer sure does move much faster than I remember. Thank you Todd and Alison for your help.
Sunday night, capped of the weekend of competition on the kickball field. The Canonballers beat their opponent soundly. I believe the final score was somewhere around 18 to nothing. Although the win was lopsided there were a number of comical errors as only our Canonballers have perfected.
I don't like to name names most of the time in order to protect some of their dignity but what I will have to say that one player in particular committed two gaffes that I'm still smiling about. A single-handed double-play. , During the first everyone inning after kicking a ball they were tagged out at first base our next player kicked the ball into the air and she instinctively caught it out of bounds. The umpire called him out. Yes that's right it doesn't happen very often that one person can make a double play on their own on offense. Later in the game the same person attempting to catch a fly ball let it go through their hands and smack themselves in the face. Although this sounds painful and could result in a black eye, bloody nose or worse yet a broken nose we were quick to laugh at their expense.
Next week we play at 6 p.m.. If you are looking for some Sunday night hilarity feel free to join us.
Thanks again to everyone for your help throughout the year especially anyone involved in the fundraisers that affords me the financing available to make trips like I did this month to Washington, DC and Baltimore. Without your help I would not have been able to visit with the doctors at Kennedy Krieger or the scientists at the Stem Cell Summit.
Have a great week and don't forget that Thursday is another Prayer Power Surge. Keep in mind all of those that would benefit from the power of prayer at 6:00 p.m.
Take care, Mark
