In the interest of keeping all of you “in the loop” Mark has asked for some help with his weekly post, as he is very busy with appointments.
Mark’s annual trip to Kennedy Kreiger started Sunday evening. One of his fraternity brothers, Scott Lee, volunteered as a driver, and the two of them left KC about 6pm on
Sunday night, after winning another Cannonballer’s kickball game. (You can call Edna for game highlights.) Scott and Mark stopped long enough in St. Louis for me to jump in the van, and we continued the trip east. Peanut will tell you that we ate, laughed and sang our way across the US. Scott, we will road trip with you any time – thanks for all of the driving that you did.
We arrived in the area on Monday afternoon and then made our way to Potomac to settle in at our host Josh’s home. It was still early enough to make a late evening visit to DC for a tour of the War Memorials and a quick dinner.
Tuesday was full of therapy and doctor appointments. Mark was very pleased to hear from Dr. Sadowsky that she is reclassifying Mark’s level of injury from Asia B to Asia C. The short explanation for the change is that Mark now has some visible motor function below his level of injury.
Today we returned to Kennedy Kreiger for more therapy, Mark spent more time using the handcycle. He is planning to make it a regular part of his work-out routine when he returns home. I picked Mike up at the airport, and the three of us had lunch and a tour of the facility with medical miracle Pat Rummerfield.
Our quick stop downtown turned into an evening at Camden Yards watching the Orioles and the Tampa Bay Rays. In addition to baseball, we were well entertained by “Mascot Night”. Seeing my brother hamming it up with a big blue fuzzy thing named Ripcord was worth the parking fee. If I can figure out how to upload the pic, you will all have the opportunity to laugh at him along with Mike and I. In spite of having to leave during a late in the game rain delay, it was still – as always – a perfect night for baseball!
After a late game and an hour drive home we are going to shorten the post to say we are having a great time and looking forward to this weekend with our friends Ben and Tommy. There are big plans cooking for sightseeing in DC. We’ll be more timely with the post next week, I promise.
p.s. Rhonda, Mark said eat bacon and keep exercising to work your way to better health.
xo,
Kelly
