Hello Team Cameron,
if you're a regular reader you have probably noticed that my posts are getting later and later. Sorry about that occasionally it takes a while for the creative juices to get warmed up.
Those regular readers are also aware that one of my favorite food groups would be bacon. There have been a number of references from my recovery at Craig Hospital to my friends in Arkansas and care givers here at home. Almost everyone knows I like pork.
As you can imagine I was near tears last week when I heard the news that the Godfather of bacon, Oscar Mayer, passed away. I've never met the guy but can't imagine that I could have built a nice friendship with him over a big breakfast at a restaurant or a BLT sitting on a fence rail in Arkansas or on two slices of buttered toast at Craig Hospital. Oscar, rest in peace and God bless your creativity.
Does everybody have Sunday and Monday July 19 and 20th on your calendar? After I reread last week's post I realized that I had not mentioned Push America and their annual trip through Olathe.
For those of you who don't recognize Push America, I will give you a quick once over. Pi Kappa Phi is a national fraternity that established a philanthropy based on helping the disabled both physically and financially. They created Push America in an effort to raise money and awareness to benefit the needs of the disabled.
In 1987 one member of this fraternity rode his bike across United States in an effort to raise media awareness from town to town for the disable. They have continued this tradition and four years ago I became involved in planning their local stop.
I would like to invite each of you to the Mahaffie house in Olathe to welcome these cyclists, from all over United States, as they make their way along the Transamerica route from Seattle to Washington, DC. The welcoming ceremony will take place from noon until three on Sunday afternoon. If you live in another city I would like to invite you to check out the web site, www.pushamerica.org/events/JOH/ .
There ride from the West Coast to Washington, DC has been called The Journey of Hope and there are approximately 70 cities that each route stops for an evening in an effort to bring in media coverage and local attention to the needs of the disabled. With three different routes they cover approximately 30 different states.
Check out their web site and if they're not stopping in your town they are possibly passing through and meeting them with a cooler of water or Gatorade or a bagful of sandwiches would make their day and yours.
by the way did anyone find themselves humming that familiar tune last week when you saw that Oscar Mayer had passed away?
Take care and have a nice week.
Sincerely, Mark
