Hello Team Cameron,
Unstoppable. The Cannonballers' season could not be summed up with one word. They came out with a fire in their eyes and their sites set to win. We took a quick and decisive lead in the first inning and held our opponent to zero runs the first three innings.
Everyone played their positions well, even the subs shined. There were a number of the last-minute substitutes and you can bet the regular players hated missing this one. The Cannonballers' have definitely made a name for themselves completing their second undefeated season.
The first summer league season starts June 7th and I know everyone is excited to play but I've heard rumblings that the bracket may be full. I'm sure you will find out as soon as I do if there's an opening for another team on the schedule. Great job guys, I'm proud of you.
Each year during the month of May since my accident I'm scheduled to speak to the seventh grade class at Chisholm Trail Junior High School. My sister Susan, a teacher there, has helped to organize the annual event to allow me to address the students.
Through high school and college I took a number of speaking classes and was reminded each time that I got up in front of the class that public speaking wasn't going to be one of my strong suits. I've seen videotape footage of me in front of 15 of my peers during a junior college speech class, I was a nervous wreck.
I'm amazed at how comfortable I have become in front of 300 plus 7th graders. In true Mark Cameron fashion, I was a half-hour late for my one hour speech due to a dead battery on the van. It did offer me my opening line, "a funny thing happened to me on my way to work..." It sailed over the top of every kids head and only three teachers laughed.
The speech introduces the kids to my life before and after the accident through a series of slides on the wall behind me. I also show them some of the equipment I work out with to stay healthy and explain how technology allows me my independence and freedom. I then tell them to be sure and take time through life to give back to people in need.
I also leave them with a couple pieces of advice;
I'm sure you will know the message that I pass along to start the summer would be, diving awareness.
Be careful when feeling sorry for yourself, there's always someone who's got it worse.
Don't let anyone tell you a goal is unattainable, only you can set the bar.
I also tell them to not only choose their friends wisely, but to be a good friend, you never know how important a good friend could be later in life.
Hope you all have a great week.
Love, Mark
