Mark,
I was sitting in my 1st hour today and we always watch a news program for the first ten minutes of the class period. The program is produced specifically for school viewing and is pretty great for the kids to become a little more informed on what is going on in the world, outside of the immediate perimeter of their little teenage lives . Anyway, one of the stories that caught my attention and created a life lesson talk with my kids, was based on President Obama's lift on unlimited spending towards stem cell research. I was able to share your story and how your positive perspective on life has encouraged, motivated and continues to impress many people within and beyond your daily contacts. After showing your biography video my kids and I had a great discussion on decision making and how fragile their lives are, even though they think they are invincible.
Being the strong academic mentor I am, I decided it would be best if my students became a bit more informed on the topic of stem cell research; therefore they will be writing an essay, after spending some time investigating all aspects of this topic. Now that they have a face to associate with the purpose of stem cell research, they are more motivated to seek out the effects this new funding could have on our disabled community.
I think of you and pray for you often. Thank you for providing me with the opportunity to show your bio and hopefully, educate my students of the need and importance to support stem cell research.
Take Care,
Mindy
