What a day today. Mark is completely worn out - here's how his day went.
Up around 7a, had a breathing treatment and a bit of breakfast (not eating that much, but still drinking a lot of water) - didn't feel so well this morning. a bit dizzy, short of breath -- possibily a bit of anxiety we think. Rested a bit around 10 - 11a. Got a bath and got dressed -- that's a long process and again very tiring. Around 1p - Mark got into a wheelchair and we went tooling around the hospital. Sat on the walkway between the buildings and watched a storm roll in - lighting and thunder even. Came back to the room and Mark sweet-talked the respiratory lady into dropping the air in his trach cuff to allow air to come up through his throat so he could talk. YEA!!! He did this in order to make a few phone calls - what an awesome sight and sound. Everyone he spoke to was completely SHOCKED to hear his voice. His voice was a bit rough, but he definitely sounded like his old self. So excited for him! We then went on another walk and went outside a couple times. It felt good to get outside.
After we got back to the room -- Mark did his first test to see how he could breath without the vent. Scary, but it was amazing. He went the full two minutes without needing the vent. YIPPEE!!! His weening program has started!! Some of the ladies here are very impressed that he's started this process so quickly - they made the comment that normally it's about a month before someone starts weening. I'm now learning Mark is definitely an overachiever! :-)
After such an eventful day - Mark is completely worn out. We've opted to stay in for dinner and may even watch a movie.
Mark's brother, Mike, is coming in tomorrow from Durango. Even though he's excited to see his brother - he'll definitely miss me to pieces :-)
Thank you everyone for all your love and support for Mark and his family. Mark is looking at the web-site and he definitely appreciates all the notes you send.
Please keep Mark and his family in your thoughts and prayers.
Be safe.
