(The following is a note dictated to me by Mark.)
Had a long night -- had a dream that I drove a road grader through the hospital parking lot :-) then, stayed awake for a while trying to figure out where I learned to drive a road grader - never drove one before.
Was up most of the night - different people coming in and out, breathing treatments every couple hours which takes a bit out of me.
Was up at 7a this morning and wanted to sit up in bed. Sat up a bit too far too fast and found out that I needed to slow down. Took a short nap and around 8a the doctors came in - we had a good conversation for about an hour. They both agreed that I am progressing better than average. yeaa!!! (that was Lana's ad-lib)
My accomplishments yesterday were quite a deal because the conversations with the doctors and techs took all my energy.
I'm going to rest now and will write more later.
Thanks to everyone for thinking and praying for me.
Love,
Mark
Evening Update
(As in the previous update --- All this information is being given to me by Mark directly.)
Just finished dinner - a bit of lasagna, salad and bread. Looking forward to a quiet evening. Today was uneventful - because of what I completed both yesterday and the day before. Expect quiet weekends - since there is no occupational or physical therapy done on the weekends. Have my schedule for both types of therapy, starting on Monday, and doing sessions all week.
Going to have a change of guard this weekend - Lana is leaving on Sunday - Mike (my brother) is coming in Sunday to take over. He'll be here for 3-4 days.
I was able to view the web-site this afternoon for the first time. (Kelly/Donnie - I know you showed me the sight before I left KC, but I don't remember much of it - sorry) Thank you EVERYONE for your love and support. The simple principle of kindness that you have all shown me and my family is overwhelming.
Between Lana and Pam (my nurse) I was able to receive a close shave today. I feel like a new man.
Tomorrow will be a big day - I am starting the weaning process for the trach. First step is to lower the cuff level and try breathing on my own. Don't worry - they will be right beside me monitoring my progress. I'm very excited about this step and may even be able to make a quick call or two - who knows.
I love you.
Mark
