Wow, Wednesday was quite a day. I think we broke the new record for making it form KC to Denver. We (Mark, Lona, and Donnie) arrived at Craig Hospital at around 10:00 a.m. and it seems to be everything we hoped it would be. The staff here immediately started working with mark. In the first 12 hours Mark met over 20 of the staff. In the next couple of days they are going to run all new tests so they can get a current look at Marks condition.
Mark has a great room with a view. In fact, a rain storm rolled in yesterday afternoon, and when it cleared up there was an incredible double rainbow Mark could see from his window. I'll take that as a sign.
Marks attitude is great! He told me that the tough part is just waiting. He is so ready to get up and going. He wanted me to thank everyone for all of there thoughts and prayers.
Keep praying,
Donnie
evening update -
Mark didn't get much sleep last night as there were different nurses and techs coming in throughout the night. He is completely off sedatives, which enables him to think more clearly , That could be a reason as to why he didn't sleep much either.
10a - they moved Mark into a wheelchair - He looked awesome. Donnie took some pictures that he'll post on the website soon. He was jetted around the hospital for a bit to get to different tests.
11a - First test was a swallowing test. They did xrays as Mark swallowed different items to determine if anything would flow into the lungs instead of the stomach. He PASSED with flying colors. All the nurses and techs - about 5 people were amazed and happy for Mark!
11:30a - They did some ultrasounds on his legs and stomach and then continued with x-rays of his neck, chest and stomach. (we have yet to see them or hear of any results). I know Donnie told you about seeing the rainbow yesterday - well, today after all the tests, we were walking back to the room and we found a penny - heads up and dated 2004. We're taking that as another sign. (yea!!!)
12:30p - FIRST drink of water. You should have seen his face -- what a look of happiness. ;D He kept telling everyone how much he LOVED water.
1p - had a bit of lunch - bites of different items, but not a whole lot, but more water and gatorade.
2p - participated in a bit of Occupational Therapy. (range of motion for his upper body) and then the Physical Therapist came in and did a bit of work on his lower body. Busy day for him.
He rested a bit this afternoon and then was able to order some supper.
5:30p - ate a little bit of supper, but said it definately did NOT taste like his moms. :-)
7:30p - have a couple people in the rooms running some tests and just getting ready for a good nights sleep.
He often states that he is tired and needs a nap - then wouldn't you know someone comes in to take blood or something.
We've talked to him a bit about different things that happened while he was in KU after the accident. He does not remember a whole lot - but definitely wants everyone to know how much he appreciates all the thoughts, visits, calls, cards and prayers.
He sends his love to everyone.
Thank you.
